Father who lost 3 sons to war ready to sacrifice life for peace

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Ghulam Akbar, a resident of Watapor district of eastern Kunar province who lost three of his sons in Afghan security forces, says he is ready to sacrifice his life for peace in the country.

The 65 years old man, who sustained wounds during a fight against the Soviet Union forces, is a resident of Korbagh area of Watapor district, but he has shifted his home to Asadabad city, the provincial capital, due to security threats.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Renowned writer and journalist IsmatQane, who is currently living abroad due to security threats, says being abroad he is suffering mental stress and will return home soon after if peace is restored.

Intra-Afghan talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban began in Doha, Qatar on September 12, 2020.

However, no progress has been made in the negotiations and instead the security and violence increased which prompted many Afghans to leave the country.

KABUL (Pajhwok): All Afghans are yearning peace, but ordinary people, politicians, Taliban and the government have different definitions for it. However, some commonalities in these definitions are “orderliness, security, prosperity and an end to the war in the country”. For nearly four decades, the people of Afghanistan have been living in insecurity and war that has spawned a variety of problems, such as loss of relatives, migration, poverty and economic hardships. MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Gul Noor, a 65 years old man, in northern Balkh province has been displaced by war from his village. He says his 25 acres of land has turned arid due to the conflict but hopes he will return to his area and will rehabilitate his farms once peace comes. Noor who currently lives in a IDPs camp in Mazar-i-Sharif city, the provincial capital, is a resident of Shulgara district.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Many Afghans believe that discrimination and granting privileges to specific groups of people has created problems and it remains a barrier to the peace process.

The Article 22 of the Constitution states, “Any kind of discrimination and distinction between citizens of Afghanistan shall be forbidden. The citizens of Afghanistan, men and women, have equal rights and duties before the law.”

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A female restaurant owner in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, believes her business would grow when peace is established in Afghanistan. Zahra Ibrahimi, a graduate of Public Administration and Policy, has been running a restaurant named “Unique” for over a year in the limits of second police district of Mazar-i-Sharif. But she says recent clashes, insecurities and increasing crimes in the city have negatively impacted her business.
