Religious scholars declare ongoing conflict against Islam

KABUL (Pajhwok): Supreme council of religious leaders denounced the ongoing violence and said that continued war was against the principles of Islam, a statement from the Presidential Palace stated on Friday.
Maulvi Ghulam Rabbani Rahmani, a member of the council of clerics, addressing a gathering at the President Palace, strongly condemned the killings of innocent women and children in recent attacks in Kabul.

Afghan, Pakistani officials discuss security challenges

KABUL (Pajhwok): A high-powered Afghan delegation returned home from Islamabad late on Thursday after holding comprehensive talks on improved bilateral ties with Pakistani officials.
Syed Zafar Hashmi, deputy presidential spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the delegation, led by Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, had detailed meetings with Pakistan officials.
However, he did not share details of what specifically they discussed with their Pakistani interlocutors, but media reports suggest that Islamabad had advised Kabul to resume peace talks with the Taliban.

WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The United States needs to be engaged in Afghanistan, a top American general said on Wednesday, praising Afghan security forces for doing a pretty good job in protecting the country.
“The Afghan forces, in my mind, are doing a pretty good job of going after that. I think the Pakistanis have done some good work against the Taliban here lately,” the outgoing US Amy chief said.

The Dawn.com reported that Zarif during his day-long visit to Pakistan, addressed a press conference along with Sartaj Aziz, adviser to prime minister on foreign affairs and national security.

Powerful Afghan delegation arrives in Islamabad

KABUL (Pajhwok):  A high-level Afghan delegation on Thursday reached Islamabad to discuss with Pakistani officials cooperation in combating terrorism and advancing peace talks with the insurgents, officials said.
Sayed Zafar Hashimi, the deputy presidential spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the delegation included Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabani, Acting Defence Minister Masoum Stanikzai, and spymaster Rahmatullah Nabil.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Shekib Mustaghni told reports on Thursday that the delegation left Kabul for Islamabad this noon.

KABUL (Pajhwok): German special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan (SRAP) Sabine Sparwasser on Wednesday said Afghanistan’s latest stance about Pakistan was understandable and her country wanted cordial relations between the neighbours.
Sparwasser met National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar in Kabul and discussed with him bilateral relations, German assistance for Afghanistan, economic development, security and other issues of mutual interest, according to Tawab Ghorzang, the National Security Council (NSC) spokesman.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Former president Hamid Karzai on Wednesday supported the unity government’s stance against Pakistan, saying Islamabad would never achieve its goals through oppression, intimidation and destruction of Afghanistan.
Speaking at an event marking International Youth Day in Kabul, Karzai said the Afghan people considered the Pakistani people their brothers, sisters and friends. There were no differences among the two peoples, he added.

KABUL (Pajhwok): In a guarded reaction following Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani remarks that war continues to be declared against Afghans from Pakistani soil, Islamabad has said terrorism is “our common enemy and requires cooperative approach to combat this menace.”
A statement from the Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Islamabad and Kabul are brotherly and neighbouring countries and enjoy close and cooperative relations.
