War only brings misfortunes, says Jawzjan victim

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A 35-years-old woman who lost her husband and two brothers to the war in northern Jawzjan province says the pain she suffered is shared by thousands of other Afghan women.
The woman, Nazifa, is a resident of Sardara village of Darzab district. Nazifa led a normal life four years ago with her spouse and five children including two of her own, but then she lost her husband, two brothers and wife of one of her brothers.
Talking to Pajhwok Afghan News, she said, “My husband was a shepherd and we had a happy life though had no much money.”

Peace only way to end current miseries: Paktika residents

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Residents of southeastern Paktika province believe peace is the only way to end the ongoing miseries and control extremist groups in Afghanistan.
Paktika residents support advances made in the peace negotiations and ask the Afghan government and the Taliban to agree to a ceasefire as soon as possible for paving the way for a permanent peace in the country.
Ejaz Ahmad, a resident, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the blood of Afghans was shed for four decades and the situation was no longer acceptable.

Efforts on for international meeting on Afghan peace in China

KABUL (Pajhwok): Efforts are underway for organizing an international meeting about the Afghan peace process in China where representatives of the US, Europe, Russia, India and neighboring countries of Afghanistan would participate, a credible source said Sunday.
A well-placed government official, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that work the plan was underway but details in this regard were yet to be specified.

Hundreds of Helmand residents demand ceasefire

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Hundreds of tribal elders, religious scholars, civil society activists and People’s Peace Movement (PPM) members in southern Helmand province have demanded the government and the Taliban agree to ceasefire.
The gathering in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, late on Saturday was addressed by PPM leader Iqbal Khyber, who said the ongoing war had no purpose except killing of Afghans and destruction of the country.
He said: “Due to the ongoing conflict, thousands of Afghans have lost their lives, therefore we should not miss the current peace chance.”

KABUL (Pajhwok): National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mobib has said the Taliban show no sign of willingness to peace and reconciliation in the country, according to a statement on Wednesday.
Mohib expressed these views while addressing a six-nation meeting on Afghanistan and regional security situation in Ufa, Russia.
Afghanistan, Russia, China, India, Iran and Pakistan representatives were present on the occasion.

Paktika women want to be part of peace process

SHARAN (Pajhwok): Women in southeastern Paktika province say they have suffered the most as a result of the ongoing war, demanding participation in the peace process.
Addressing a gathering on the peace process here on Tuesday, civil society activist Kubra Mohammadi said women had lost children, husbands and other relatives to the conflict; so they were more willing than anyone else for lasting peace.
This demand comes after women from different parts of the country sought participation in the peace talks but their demand is yet to be met.

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani, who met with US special envoy for Afghan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad on Wednesday, said coordination between the Afghan government and the US over the peace process had strengthened.
On the other hand, the president said the international community had no intention to leave Afghanistan without a clear roadmap for the country.
A statement from the Presidential Palace received by Pajhwok Afghan News said President Ghani met with Khalilzad in his office this morning.

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The United Nations (UN) secretary-general’s special representative for Afghanistan has called on the people of northern Kunduz province to play an active role in national and political processes.
During his trip to Kunduz province on Tuesday, Tadamichi Yamamoto attended a seminar titled “Women’s Role in ongoing Peace Process”.
Dr. Khaibar Saifi, the Kunduz University chancellor, said the role of educated youth and academic organs in tackling violence and maintaining peace was vital.
