Sharif wishes success for Afghan peace talks

KABUL (Pajhwok): Talking to Afghanistan ambassador to Pakistan, Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif said that relations between Islamabad and Kabul have been undergoing qualitative transformation since the new government took over last year.
A statement from the prime minister house said that the meeting between the ambassador and the prime minister held in Islamabad on Monday. Mosazai thanked the government of Pakistan for providing generous support to Afghanistan in the form of relief supplies in the wake of the destruction caused by recent avalanches.

McKinley stresses representation in peace talks

KABUL (Pajhwok): The US ambassador to Afghanistan while reiterating his country’s support to the peace drive said that women’s representation in the peace negotiations was of utmost importance.
US Ambassador P. Michael McKinley’s statement came at a time when relations between Kabul and Islamabad had recently improved and the ground for peace talks between Taliban and the Afghan government had also been paved.
However, Taliban had not yet formally confirm to kick-start negotiations process with the Afghan government.

Women be given representation in peace talks: HRW

KABUL (Pajhwok): The unity government should commit to include women on the negotiating team for any future peace talks with the Taliban, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in a statement.
“If peace talks in Afghanistan move forward, all parties should ensure that women have a meaningful presence on the negotiating teams. President Ghani should protect human rights – especially women’s rights – by including women on the government’s negotiating team,” said Heather Barr, senior women’s rights researcher at HRW

Fight to stabilise Afghanistan underway: CEO

KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Saturday said the fight to stabilise Afghanistan was underway and the nation should continue making joint efforts at ensuring peace in the country.
Addressing a ceremony marking the 23rd anniversary of the Mujahideen’s victory over the former Soviet forces, Abdullah said jihad was a pride for the Afghans and its achievements had been recorded in history.
Abdullah called jihad a national and religious duty and said the Afghans had defended Islam and their country by sacrificing their lives.

Taliban kill 7 ISIS fighters in Zabul clash

QALAT (Pajhwok): At least seven Islamic State members have been killed during a clash with Taliban in Arghandab district of southern Zabul province, an official said Thursday.
Maj. Gen. Wasif Shah, the 205th Attal Military Corps commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News that nature of the dispute could not be ascertained but firefight between the two dreaded groups led to the killings of IS members.
However, Taliban have not yet commented on the clash.
