Of late, there has been talk of new and unlikely alliances being cobbled together in Afghanistan.The one between Balkh Governor Atta Mohammad Noor and 1stVice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, as well as other coalitions of the kind, have both positive and negative results.
Noor says the two political heavyweights had set aside old rivalries to combat the Taliban and other insurgent groups in the restive north. This alliance between the Jamiat-i-Islami and Junbish Millie seeks to bring peace and security to the region and push back the enemies.

How to fix approach to the peace negotiations

The Afghan government has been struggling for peace for a decade, but the current talks are doomed to fail if the process is not streamlined. Changes need to happen at multiple levels if there has to be a real chance for peace, including negotiating with the insurgents. In his book The Revenge of Geography,Robert D. Kaplan argues having Pakistan as our neighbor is akin to the revenge of an inappropriate geographical location. The termination of, or indifference towards, relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan is not only impossible but also a dangerous proposition for both countries.
As they say, if you cannot beat them, join them. It is precisely for this reason that any efforts made by the governments of the two countries in terms of strengthening diplomatic relations and making progress must be supported.

Here is an important question on everyone’s lips: Why have the Taliban lately stepped up informal meetings with Afghan government and civil society representatives?
A month back, the Taliban members met different Afghan political figures at a two-day conference in Doha, the capital of Qatar, arranged by the Canada-based NGO Pugwash.
The participants conferred on the Afghanistan conundrum, welcoming the Taliban’s stance. In my opinion, the insurgents and jihadi leaders want to attain the following objectives from such gatherings:

Men and women are equal in their creation, rights, obligations and responsibilities. They have similar rights and duties towards Allah, Who addresses them “as people or those who have embraced Islam” -- without any gender-based discrimination -- in the Holy Quran.
Generally speaking, as human beings, the two genders have similar duties and responsibilities. Of course, certain exceptions have to be acknowledged. In other words, both men and women are equal in their political, economic, cultural and social rights and responsibilities.
