Respect Chapter 2, peace negotiators urged

KABUL (Pajhwok): A number of citizens say certain articles of Chapter II of the Constitution must be firmly protected in peace negotiations.
The government’s peace negotiating team has ruled out any compromise on this constitutional chapter, protecting people’s rights.
But the Taliban, calling discussions on the constitution premature, say they are ready to guarantee the rights Islam has given the people.
The fundamental rights and duties of citizens are set out in the second Chapter of Afghanistan’s Constitution:

QALAT (Pajhwok): A resident of southern Zabul province, who lost her four sons in the same Taliban attack, has called on the warring parties to show mercy on civilians and stop the fighting.
Bibi Halima, whose four sons in police were killed, says may Allah (swt) keep away other mothers from weeping on their sons bodies and bring peace.

PARAKH (Pajhwok): Some relatives of Ahmad Shah Massoud say the veteran Jihadi commander did not believe in revenge. They believe if Massoud were alive today, he would have found a path to lasting and dignified peace in Afghanistan. Massoud, the Jamiat-i-Islami leader, was assassinated on September 9, 2001 --two days before the 9/11 attacks that changed Afghanistan, by two Arabs who identified themselves as journalists in the Khwaja Bahauddin area of northern Takhar province. A relative of the commander, Rahmatullah Begana was born in 1961 in a village of Panjsher.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Farida Kochi, who has lost three sons including a four-month-old to war, wants support to go to Qatar and plead with the warring parties for peace. But Kochi, a former senator, is still making strenuous efforts to stretch her scarf (shawl) before the negotiators for making peace and renouncing the war. A member of the Meshrano Jirga (upper house of parliament) from 2010-2018, Farida Kochi is a resident of Balkh province. She is currently living in Kabul.

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Noor Mohammad Ustad, who lost one of his legs in a bomb blast, owns a sports club and intends to open such facilities in districts of central Uruzgan province if peace is achieved in the country.
Ustad, 31, a resident of Dehrawud district of Uruzgan province, became disabled in a bomb blast in Arghandab district of Kandahar province eight years ago.
He was a driver on the Kandahar-Uruzgan highway before the blast hit him.
The victim of the ongoing conflict says after losing his leg he became hopeless and alone.

SHARANA (Pajhwok): The sole breadwinner for eight widows and 16 orphaned children in southeastern Paktika province is facing severe financial and other problems, but he hopes the establishment of peace will resolve their problems. Aslam Shah, actual resident of Janikhel district, has been living in a rented house in Sharana, the provincial capital, for the past six years. Aslam Shah, his brothers and cousins had served in the national and local police forces to ensure stability of the system and security of people and the country.

The Taliban, calling the discussion on the constitution premature, say they are ready to guarantee the rights Islam has given the people. Intra-Afghan peace negotiations, which began in Doha in September 2020, have made no progress so far. The talks remain stalled, even though the Turkey conference is days away. Afghan leaders, politicians, representatives from some countries and the region will be in attendance.

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A 12-year-old boy, who collects reusable things from rubbish piles in northwestern Nimroz province, is hopeful he will resume school for a better future if lasting peace is achieved in the country.
The teenager, Hamidullah, a resident of Bluwar Sulh area of Zaranj City, carries a sack on his shoulder every morning and walks the city streets to collect scrap metal, plastic and paper to deal with his economic problems.
A Pajhwok reporter interviewed the child when he was standing on a rubbish heap in search of items that can earn him some money.
